Positive Impact of Remote Working for Work Life Balance

Since businesses are constantly searching for methods to strike a balance between sustainability and profitability, remote working has changed the working cultures drastically. Working from home helps employees maintain a healthy work-life balance while also assisting the business in completing its tasks. These days, the majority of employers give their workers this choice.

WFH is a concept where the employee can do his or her job from home (or even remotely) using company approved assets, policies and tools. Work from home gives flexible working hours to the employee as well as the job for the employer is done with ease (mbaskool, 2024).

More people are taking advantage of the flexibility to work from home or any other location that works best for them thanks to technological advancements. Workers enjoy a better work-life balance and save time on commuting since they are no longer constrained by the rules of a traditional office. On the other hand, employers save money and have access to a larger talent clusters.

Adaptable Work-from-Home Guidelines: Promoting remote work among employees lessens the need for commuting, which lowers carbon emissions and lessens the environmental impact overall.

Digital Collaboration Tools: To cut down on travel and in-person meetings, use cloud-based platforms, video conferencing, and digital project management tools.

Virtual Events: Holding online training sessions, webinars, and conferences in place of sending staff members to far-off places for in-person gatherings.

In Sri Lanka, remote work has become increasingly popular, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic compelled many companies to switch to online operations. More Sri Lankans are embracing the flexibility of working from home thanks to advancements in digital tools and internet infrastructure.

Work-life balance refers that an employee will have sufficient time for both the professional and personal life without interfering with the other. In a remote work setup, employees have more autonomy over their work schedule and can often create a better balance between work and personal life (international journal of organizational leadership, 2023)

Employees have reported shorter commutes and improved work-life balance as a result of this change. Businesses are increasingly using hybrid or fully remote models, particularly in the tech and services sectors, to increase access to talent from all over the island.

Despite these obstacles, many employees and companies are embracing the remote work culture because they see its long-term advantages. As digital transformation continues, remote working in Sri Lanka is likely to continue to play a significant role in the workforce landscape, presenting both opportunities and challenges for the future. Some of these obstacles include inconsistent internet speeds and the need for improved cybersecurity practices.

Sri Lanka keeps pushing remote work as a calculated move to boost its digital economy and draw in top talent from around the world. To make the nation a desirable location for remote workers looking to combine work and play, the government has implemented policies like the Digital Nomad Visa.
